Dannii Minogue Plays At Small Club

It seems like a lifetime ago when there was serious debate about who was best – Kylie or Dannii Minogue. It was not uncommon for people who wanted to seem cooler than thou to proclaim that they prefered Dannii to her pint-sized songstrel sis.

To be fair, Dannii did notch up a nice run of hits, and even made it to No 3 last year. But she’s never quite taken over the world like Kylie.

Now the not-so-mighty have fallen ever farther, to a tiny 250 capacity club in Newcastle. Or at least that’s how the tabloids are reporting it. They’re full of snide comments about how she’s desperate and in the dumps.

But the club night, in The Cluny Bar, also featured Sarah Whatmore, Marcella Woods and Dirty Vegas. It was probably a try out gig for new material in a small venue. It’s something lots of stars do on the quiet.

So just beware of tabloid spin, folks. They would have you believe Dannii’s washed up, but there’s a new record deal, a new single coming and she’s working with top people like Roger Sanchez.

Will Young Is Not Letting Fame Get To Him

Will Young is a man with worries. Skin worries that is. He’s so concerned about the state of his face that when he goes to photo shoots he takes his own special make-up artist, stylist and hairdresser to make him look good.

But he’s concerned this may make him seem a bit demanding and is apparently, “quite insecure about coming across as a diva.”

He said “I’ve seen horrid shots of me looking rough and spotty, so now I try to appear well-groomed.”

The vocalist is also determined not to lay it on thick when he’s away from home and staying in hotels. He asks that he only be booked into small rooms and not big luxury suites because, “Hey, it’s only me, I don’t need much space.”

Way to go, Will. Nice to know someone isn’t letting fame go straight to their heads unlike a certain runner-up.

Mel B Does Not Want To Look Desperate

Now, you may be forgiven for thinking that Scary Spice, Mel B was still hungry for fame, what with recent reports claiming that she wants to resurrect the Spice Girls, but the Northern battleaxe has turned down an appearance on Celebrity Blind Date.

The move is even more surprising considering her recent split with actor boyfriend Max Beesley. The show could have provided whole minutes of exposure for Mel, and she could have bagged a new bloke.

“Not on your life” Mel told Metro, adding, “it makes me look desperate!”

Pepsi Deny Dropping Gareth

A Pepsi spokesman denied reports in the Daily Mail that the company planned to drop Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates from their ad campaign because his popularity with teenagers had “already started to wane”.

The spokesman told BBC News Online “He has not been axed. Gareth was always on a one-year contract. He has exceeded our expectations and we are delighted with his success. We wish him all the best in the future.”

Liam Gallagher is sueing the People newspaper for reporting that he was unfaithful to his pop paramour Nicole Appleton with an Italian Oasis fan. The paper’s headline read ‘Cheat Liam beds Nicole lookalike!’ But Liam’s spokesman insisted “He’s maintaining he did not sleep with the girl in question and he’s never been unfaithful to Nicole.”

Meanwhile, Noel is having his own love woes, according to the press. He’s been playing ‘Wonderwall’ in concert again, and it’s claimed he wants to get back together with his ex wife, Meg.

Mr Anonymous Source told the paper “Noel has been ringing Meg. He really wants to get back with her and that’s the real reason for his split with Sara.”

Meg, who is believed to have landed a juicy GBP4 million in the divorce settlement, has so far kept mum.

Groove Armada Back To Confuse And Bemuse

Just when you thought you had their musical number, the boys from Groove Armada are back to confuse and bemuse, with a positively shocking musical slice of deep down dirtiness.

‘Purple Haze’ is the first single to be taken from ‘Lovebox’, Groove Armada’s new album and it features the raucous vocals of Kentucky bred hip-hop outfit Nappy Roots pitched against the lyrics of Jamaican MC, Red Rat.

The track, one of the hardest on the album, is a rollercoster punk collision of bad attitude, loud lyrics, punishing guitar riffs and dirty beats.

The single has two additional tracks, ‘Lovebox’, an uplifting slice of Balearia and ‘Ooh Baby’, featuring soulful snippets from the legendary Mr Horace Andy.

Ex 3LW Naturi Ordered To Be A Slut

Former 3LW member Naturi Naughton is claiming in her lawsuit against the group that she was expected to do more than just sing and dance for the group. She was ordered to be a slut as well.

She says she was kept being urged to get into a romantic relationship with a member of the rap group, St Lunatics. This was to happen just so that the group would ask 3LW to tour with them.

“I felt like a big time slut. They were pressing me to get into this thing with a guy from St Lunatics. That was not how I was brought up and that is not how I would want fans to emulate just so they can get their wish.”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the camp, Kiely Williams and Adrienne Bailon said “Although we were not surprised that Naturi has taken legal action, we were shocked by the outrageous allegations she has made against us”.

“We look forward to handling this matter in a professional manner in a court of law.”

P Diddy Dating Kelis

Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs has been quietly dating Kelis for the past month. A pal of Puffy’s revealed, “They have been good friends for a while but recently started working together and that’s when their friendship turned to love.”

“They were spending a lot of time with each other and they both realised they wanted to be more than just friends. Neither are shy so it didn’t take too long until they hit it off.”

Diddy may have alterior motives, as reports suggest he’s trying to lure Kelis from Virgin Records to his Bad Boy label.

Shania Twain And Her Chart History

It’s been almost two years since Shania Twain had a song debut on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Absence must have made radio’s heart grow fonder, because massive instant airplay on ‘I’m Gonna Getcha Good!’ resulted in a Hot Shot Debut designation for the track as it shoots in at No 24.

It’s the highest debut of Shania’s career, besting the No 29 entry of ‘Love Gets Me Every Time.’

Of Shania Twain’s 22 entries on the country chart, only ‘Love Gets Me Every Time’ and the new ‘I’m Gonna Getcha Good!’ have entered in the Top 40 regions of the chart.

Should her new offering travel all the way to the top of the charts, it would become the singer’s eighth No 1 hit.

JC To Release Solo Album Too?

JC Chasez is said to be making his own album. He will have at least one song on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, Drumline.

Dallas Austin, who’s producing the film and the soundtrack, has recorded four songs with JC, including ‘Blowin’ Me Up’, a strong contender to be the soundtrack’s first single.

“We’ve been doing some great, great material” Dallas said Wednesday from his Atlanta home. “At first he wasn’t going to do a record, but I think now he’s kind of interested, so we’ll probably just keep recording. We were just writing songs for the movie and we caught a niche and it was like, ‘Oh sh–, this is cool for you, let’s keep going.'”

So far JC and Austin have recorded fun, fast-paced songs and mid-tempo ballads.

“It’s back to George Michael and Prince and that ’80s era, where even though you had up-tempos, they still had songs to them, they had a lot of attitude” Dallas Austin explained. “It was a trip because we didn’t realize how far away music had gotten from doing real songs until we started working on this stuff.”

The soundtrack, due out on the 10th of December, according to Jive Records, will also include Alicia Keys, Monica, Petey Pablo and Jive newcomer Nivea, who was featured on Mystikal’s ‘Danger (Been So Long)’.

Drumline will be out in theatres tentatively on the 20th of January next year.
