a1’s Boys Pursue Solo Careers

a1 maybe no more, but that’s not stopping its members from pursuing solo careers within the industry.

Last week, Ben, Christian and Mark followed the recent departure of Paul from the band by issuing a statement announcing their split.

It also revealed that the remaining members have already started on solo projects. Mark is writing with Kylie hitmaker Rob Davis and Christian has formed a production company in Norway which will be releasing a single by hot new Norwegian artist Maria Arredondo over the next few months.

However, the best news is that the baby of the band Ben is already busy working on a solo album which he should be releasing sometime next year.

A1’s Mark Read Questions R&B’s Future

With R&B music all the rage at the moment, it isn’t surprising that the likes of Hear’Say, Liberty X and 3SL are clamouring to get their hands on songs that have a cool soul groove.

But a1’s Mark Read isn’t so sure that it’s a good idea for everyone to jump on the bandwagon because the craze for slinky R&B beats may soon pass.

“Pop music goes in cycles” he told a magazine. “And although R&B is big now people will get bored of it. Pop has a future but it’ll be something we’ve not seen before – two styles mixing together that no one was expecting – rock and reggae or something.”

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that, after their appearance on US soap ‘The Young & The Restless’, singer Ben Adams has been offered a speaking part in a future episode.

a1 To Act In Soap

a1 have established the fact that they’ll be appearing in a forthcoming episode of America’s top daytime soap for over 10 years, ‘The Young & The Restless’.

Speaking to an online website about the boyband’s virgin appearance in a soap, Ben said “We’re going to LA to shoot for ‘The Young & The Restless’. In case you don’t know, it’s the American equivalent to ‘EastEnders’, really. They want us to go and perform on the show, which should be pretty interesting. It’ll feature us at a club doing two songs, ‘Caught In The Middle’ and our brand new track ‘Make It Good’.”

No date has yet been confirmed for the episode of ‘The Young & The Restless’ that will feature a1.

Ben also added that they’re up to their necks with all the demanding schedule lined up for them this month “We are doing massive amounts of TV and interviews. Pretty much anything and everything we possibly can. No sleep, no rest, no days off!”

a1’s new single, ‘Make It Good’, will be released on 13th of May and their latest LP drops on the 27th of May 2002.
