TLC’s Lisa Lopes Will Have A Monument In Honduras

The late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes will have a monument erected in her honour in the Honduran town of La Ceiba.

One third of US R&B group TLC, and rising solo star, Lisa was killed in a car crash while on holiday in Honduras last year.

The monument will be unveiled in the town where the rapper had purchased land just before she died on the 27th of May.

TLC Is Not Like Destiny’s Child Or 3LW

Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas says one reason Grammy-winning TLC is one of the best-selling female groups of all time is because they don’t revolve around one prominent member.

Chilli sniffed, “With that group, Destiny’s Child, it’s just about Beyonce Knowles and everybody knows that. Who the heck are the other girls? And you have Kelly Rowland now trying to get into the limelight as well. Poor Michelle.”

“And 3LW, come on, you don’t really care if they replace a member or not.”

Submit Questions To The Girls Of TLC For MTV

Dave Meyers, who directed the new TLC video for ‘Girl Talk’, said, speaking to reporters, “is just going to be worldwide, chap. It’s gonna be sexy.”

“It’s going to be a celebration of Lisa, and it’s going to be upbeat, and fun.”

Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas revealed last weekend that as a tribute to late member Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, five look-alikes dressed in Lisa Lopes’ signature styles will be featured in the clip.

Meanwhile, fans can submit questions to TLC members Chilli and T-Boz which may be featured on an upcoming MTV special featuring the group. Submit your questions at the URL provided below http://www.mtv.com/news/youtellus/tlc_submit.jhtml

TLC Singer Dies In Car Crash

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez (pictured on the left in this album cover) of TLC has been killed in a car crash in Honduras. The singer, 30, was on vacation when the car she was travelling in was involved in the fatal accident. She was travelling with 7 other passengers at the time, the rest of which survived.

TLC have had several hits since they arrived on the scene in 1990. They’d won numerous awards including a Grammy for the 1999 album Fan Mail. More recently, Lisa had sung with Melanie C on her track “Never Be The Same Again” and had released her own album.

LA Reid, president of Arista records, said “No words can possibly express the sorrow and sadness I feel for this most devastating loss.”

“Lisa was not only a gifted and talented musical inspiration, but more importantly, she was like a daughter to me.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa’s family and friends. Her legacy will be remembered forever.”

TLC Working On New Album

TLC, comprising of T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli, are back in the studios, working on brand new material for their upcoming album. Presently recording in Los Angeles and Atlanta, the trio who got everybody singing ‘No Scrubs’, have recruited long-time collaborator Dallas Austin as well as Babyface, Diane Warren, Raphael Saadiq and Eddie Hustle.

While the group’s representatives at Arista Records couldn’t provide a firm release date for the project, the TLC disc is slated to be released before the year 2002 is up.

When TLC first burst onto the music scene in 1992, they sold more than 4 million copies of their first effort ‘Oooooooh… On The TLC Tip’. Their sophomore release ‘CrazySexyCool’ in 1994 sold more than 11 million discs. Their last release was 1999’s ‘Fanmail’ and that sold close to 7 million copies. In earlier news, former Living Colour lead singer Corey Glover and his writing partner Michael Cirincione filed a copyright-infringement lawsuit on the 1st of February against TLC. Corey and Michael, having submitted a song, ‘Make Your Mind Up’ to TLC for consideration a year prior to the release of ‘Unpretty’, feel that the trio used bits of the pair’s song for their massive hit single and for failing to give them credit and recognition, hence the lawsuit.

Both Corey and Michael are seeking compensatory damages from the sale of ‘Unpretty’, statutory damages and legal fees.
