India.Arie’s Ready For Love

I am ready for love/ why are you hiding from me/ I’d quickly give my freedom/ to be held in your captivity/ I am ready for love/ all of the joy and the pain/ and all the times that it takes/ just to stay in your good grace.

With lyrics like this to her latest single ‘Ready for Love’, it’s no wonder really as to why India.Arie, 25, is slated to win big at this year’s 44th Annual Grammy Awards to be held on the 27th of February in Los Angeles. She shares the honor of having the most number of nominations with U2, even beating the “expected-so-no-surprise-there” Alicia Keys who bagged 6 nominations. Named India in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi because of her due date matching his birthday, she is kind of difficult to pigeonhole and to classify her as the next so and so would not do her justice. Especially so when her debut album entitled ‘Acoustic Soul’ is totally refreshing and is packed with beautiful songs, many of which she composed herself. Leaving deep impressions on all, from the time she performed at small coffeehouses to the stages of Lilith Fair, she is definitely one of a kind.

Buy the album or hear the single or any other single of hers for that matter. Whatever you do to get India.Arie into your lives, she will not disappoint. You might want to sample tracks from her album by going to her official site at: www.indiaarie.com.

On a personal note altogether, I’ve heard ‘Ready For Love’ and I think she’s amazing. I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5. You shouldn’t give her a miss.

Bardot’s Love Will Find A Way

Bardot, the pop group from Australia, is about to release their latest number ‘Love Will Find A Way’ come 18th February. The breezy mid-tempo single that will showcase the girls’ fabulous vocals will also contain a non-album track called ‘Hit & Run’. For this single, they collaborated with UK writer Ollie J of pop outfit Arkarna fame who have in the past be known to be Peter Andre’s and Leftfield’s songwriter.

Bardot, who is named after French sexpot Bridgette Bardot, consists of 4 beautiful girls who each have their own distinct individual style, namely Belinda Chapple, Sophie Monk, Tiffany Wood and not forgetting Sally Polihronas.Hailing from Australia, these girls are also famously known for having being put together right from the start on the hit reality television phenomenon that is Popstars. They received overnight fame, what with ratings having gone through the roof and all that. Bardot, whose very first single was ‘Poison’, was formerly a five-member outfit but unfortunately, one member, Katie Underwood, left to pursue her theatre ambitions.

You can also catch the single and hear other tracks from them on their official website at: www.bardot.net.au

Victoria Has Got A Mind of Her Own

Victoria Beckham, also better known as Posh Spice or wife of David Beckham, is now out with the follow-up single to last year’s Top 10 hit ‘Not Such An Innocent Girl’.

Entitled ‘A Mind Of Its Own’, it is a pretty romantic number penned by Vic herself for her equally famous husband. Excerpts from the song are as follows: My heart’s got a mind of it’s own/ won’t listen to a word I say/ doesn’t it know that I get hurt too/ When it acts that way.

There is even a French version of this latest Victoria’s offering and when asked recently in an interview why do a recording in French and not Spanish since it’s all the rage, she replied “Because the French record company were interested in me doing it and France is obviously a very big market for me.”

Hopefully this time around, Victoria may do better with this new track of hers than she did previously with her ‘Not Such An Innocent Girl’. Although ‘A Mind Of Its Own’ may not exactly give her the No.1 spot she would like to have, it may do slightly better than her first offering which merely reached a disappointing No.7 spot and slipped off the charts as fast as possible.

Personally, if I could judge and rank this Posh Spice number that will definitely grow on you if you were to listen to it over and over again, I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5. All I can say is a very good effort Vic and keep it up!

Kylie Breaks Billboard!

Kylie has finally broken into the US Top 20 Billboard chart for the first time since 1989.

Her single “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” has stormed up to number 20, despite only being available in the US on a 12″ Single. Why it hasn’t been released as a proper CD single, we don’t know! The single has been on the Billboard chart for 4 weeks, and last week saw her appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Her album “Fever’ is due in stores on February 26th.

Enrique Iglesias stays on top

Enrique Iglesias has managed to hang on to the top spot of this week’s UK Singles Chart. His ballad “Hero” is the first single to be taken from his album “Escape”.

The follow-up single will be Escape which is accompanied by a fantastic pop video featuring Enrique with tennis star Anna Kornokova. Escape is more up-tempo track and should easily go Top 10 when it’s released.

Pink, with her track “Get The Party Started”, remains in number two spot this week, followed by A1 with “Caught In The Middle.
